Summer Steadman loses everything along the Gnadenau Trail to Oklahoma and a land claim: her husband, her children, her belongings...and her joy. Stranded in a tiny German-Mennonite town, Summer takes the position of tutor to Thomas Ollenburger, who is unable to attend school due to an accident. Although she is meant to be the teacher, she becomes the student, learning from Thomas and his father the real meaning of joy.
Waiting for Summer's Return
has received an endorsement from Janette Oke: "K Vogel Sawyer gives us a tale of
prairie life--and those hearty pioneers from many ethnic back-grounds who paved
the way for future generations--that will touch your heart and warm your soul."
